Planning the Paver Walkway Installation
Planning the installation of any paving project is vital to its success. Before starting on the installation of a paver walkway, thorough planning is required. This aspect is crucial to creating a successful and visually appealing walkway. By considering various factors and incorporating precise measurements into a detailed layout, we can streamline the installation process and overcome any potential obstacles due to our preparedness.
The first step is to determine the purpose of the walkway. Are you aiming for a functional pathway from one area to another? Or is the paver walkway primarily for aesthetic reasons? Fully understanding the purpose will help everyone involved make informed decisions about the layout, materials, and overall design of the project.
We also need to consider the appropriate size and shape for the walkway. When doing so, we will take into account the amount of foot traffic the path will experience and the available space in your landscape. For a high-traffic area, a wider walkway is likely necessary in order to accommodate multiple people walking side by side in a comfortable fashion. The shape of the walkway can be straight, curved, or even meandering. This depends on the homeowner's preferences and the overall design of your landscape.
Next, our pavers will survey the area where the walkway will be installed. By doing so, we will identify any potential obstacles. These obstacles can include trees, large rocks, utility lines, or existing structures like decks or patios. We will ultimately take note of their locations and plan the walkway accordingly. If there are obstacles that cannot be moved, we can discuss incorporating them into the walkway’s design or finding alternative ways to work around them.
In order to obtain precise measurements of the area where the paver walkway will be installed, our pavers will use a measuring tape or laser measuring tool. When we do, we will measure the width, length, and any curves or angles in the path. On top of that, we will account for any additional space needed for borders, edging, or decorative elements you plan to include. Everything will be considered before finalizing any plans.
Once we have collected all of the necessary information, our pavers will create a detailed layout for your walkway. This layout usually includes accurate measurements, the desired shape, and the location of any obstacles or existing structures. The layout will also serve as our guide during the installation process. By having a plan, our pavers can follow it and streamline the process.
Patio Paver Installation
We have a team of all around pavers, which means on top of being able to lay down paver walkways, but we can also install paver patios.
Install Drainage
The first step of a paver patio installation is installing the hardcore and drainage. A lot of this depends on existing drains in the area and the fall of the level we put on the patio. For drainage purposes, it is very important our pavers make sure that the patio falls slightly towards the drainage channels, gulley drains, or lawn areas with good soaking abilities. Once this is complete, we usually use a plate compactor to make sure that sure that every part of the patio area is compact and pay special attention to the edges.
Lay Down Patio
Next it is time to lay the patio down. The first step is to mix the wet sand and the cement mix together. For paving projects that have a brick border around the patio, then that laying needs to be done before the slabs. This keeps the lines square with the house. Then, if needed, some cutting may be required in order to fit the slabs properly. Once this is complete, it is time to lay down the slabs. When doing so, we must spread the wet sand and cement in the area where the slabs will go. Once evenly laid down, we hit them with a rubber hammer to make sure they are completely level. And we will do some cutting after the fact if necessary.
Pointing Natural Stone
Pointing is the process of angling the slabs so they are in the proper direction. When we do the pointing, we either put cement in the joints one by one using a trowel or we can brush it in wet and hose off any excess. It all depends on the particular situation and which method will look best for the paver. Our team of pavers uses their years of experience to utilize this determination.
